Celebrate the 2026 International Year of the Woman Farmer with a tour of Dr. Lucinda Stuenkel’s Sunny Day Farms near Palmer, Kansas.

Lucinda became the lead operator of the family’s ranch and crop farm in 2010. Over the years, Lucinda and her family have introduced new equipment, management approaches, regenerative practices, and soil-health improvements that have transformed Sunny Day Farms into a learning ranch. Lucinda describes this approach as “farming with less muscle.”

The day will include an on-site farm tour, educational presentations, networking, refreshments, and lunch.

Tour topics will include:

• Cattle-working areas and maternity and calving facilities
• Equipment, machinery, and tool modifications
• Pasture grazing systems, paddocks, cross-fencing, poly wire, and water development
• Grasses, forages, and cover crops
• Pasture cropping and sequential cover crops that maintain living roots
• Minimal haying and bale grazing
• Returning marginal cropland to native grass
• Biological soil amendments
• Pollinator strips, quail habitat, and bird-friendly beef practices
• Using goats to graze sericea lespedeza

Check-in and refreshments begin at 9:00 a.m. on the back porch. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.

Pre-registration is required for attendees who would like lunch. Please bring a lawn chair.

IMPORTANT DRIVING DIRECTIONS

Please follow these directions instead of GPS, particularly if it has rained recently. Several surrounding roads are primitive and may become impassable after rainfall.

From Washington: Travel approximately 25 miles south on Highway 15.

From Clay Center: Travel approximately 12 miles north on Highway 15.

Turn east onto Clay County 30th Road, also called Road 362, and continue for three miles. Turn north, or left, onto Quail Road and continue for one mile. At the T-intersection, turn east, or right, onto Parallel Road and continue for approximately 1.5 miles. At the second T-intersection, continue straight east on the less-traveled road.

Look for a yellow and brown stone house with a green mailbox. Park on the barnyard grass near the corral east of the house. Registration and refreshments will be available on the back porch.
