Cover Crop Field Day – Ellis County

September 10 @ 8:30 am - 2:00 pm CDT

Join the Kanopolis Reservoir, Big Creek, and Middle Smoky Hill River WRAPS groups for a Cover Crop Field Day in Ellis County. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m., and the tour departs at 8:30 a.m. A complimentary light breakfast will be provided.

Presentations and field discussions will cover:

• Benefits of cover crops during seasonal droughts
• Producer perspectives on why cover crops matter
• Nutrient management, including grid sampling and variable-rate application
• Incorporating grazing livestock into cover-crop systems
• Water-quality protection benefits

Featured speakers include Augustine Obour, K-State soil scientist, and Logan Simon, K-State southwest area agronomist.

Participating producers include Jeremy and Charlie Kootz; Trent Nienke; Taylor and Daren Lang of Lang Cattle & Grain; Ernie Binder and family of Pleasant View Farms; and Mike Younger.
