DESCRIPTION:The University of Kansas School of Law will host environmental law scholar James Salzman for a public lecture examining the past\, present and future of drinking water. \nProfessor Salzman will explore conflicts involving drinking water\, including issues related to social justice\, globalization\, climate change and emerging contaminants. The presentation is part of the Big 12 Law Schools Signature Lecture Series. \nSalzman is the Donald Bren Distinguished Professor of Environmental Law\, with joint appointments at the UCLA School of Law and the UC Santa Barbara Bren School of Environmental Science & Management. His scholarship addresses drinking water\, environmental policy design and markets for ecosystem services. \nThe lecture is free and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate the 2026 International Year of the Woman Farmer with a tour of Dr. Lucinda Stuenkel’s Sunny Day Farms near Palmer\, Kansas. \nLucinda became the lead operator of the family’s ranch and crop farm in 2010. Over the years\, Lucinda and her family have introduced new equipment\, management approaches\, regenerative practices\, and soil-health improvements that have transformed Sunny Day Farms into a learning ranch. Lucinda describes this approach as “farming with less muscle.” \nThe day will include an on-site farm tour\, educational presentations\, networking\, refreshments\, and lunch. \nTour topics will include: \n• Cattle-working areas and maternity and calving facilities\n• Equipment\, machinery\, and tool modifications\n• Pasture grazing systems\, paddocks\, cross-fencing\, poly wire\, and water development\n• Grasses\, forages\, and cover crops\n• Pasture cropping and sequential cover crops that maintain living roots\n• Minimal haying and bale grazing\n• Returning marginal cropland to native grass\n• Biological soil amendments\n• Pollinator strips\, quail habitat\, and bird-friendly beef practices\n• Using goats to graze sericea lespedeza \nCheck-in and refreshments begin at 9:00 a.m. on the back porch. The field day will feature a solar powered pressurized livestock water system. This one doesn’t feature a fixed watering point but rather a pipeline with quick connectors to allow for moveable watering points for rotational grazing of cover crops. \nThe location is at approximately 3425 W Red Rock Rd\, Hutchinson KS 67501. That’s .5 mile west of Broadacres Rd on Red Rock Rd or .5 East of Mohawk Rd on Red Rock Rd.  \nCome and join us for donuts and drinks at 9:30 am on Friday\, April 17!

Nick was born in South Africa where he grew up on a vegetable farm in the Limpopo Province\, today he is proudly an American citizen. Nick has been able to build biology and improve the health of the soils on his farm by using the tools in the toolbox that best fit his context. Nick’s choice of grazing animal is dorper sheep. The sheep not only provide nutrient cycling for the microbial life in the soil but are an important source of income for Vos Ag.
