The Kansas Rural Center (KRC) is a non-profit research, education, and advocacy organization promoting sustainable agriculture and sustainable food systems in Kansas. KRC sponsors several services including the Assisting Small Diversified Family Farms Implement TMDLs Through Forage Use Efficiency. This project provides on-farm visits to help farmers develop a grazing forage plan using complementary forages to extend their grazing season. The KSU Grazer planning tool and the KSU Forage Facts notebook assist in this planning process. Additional resources include a photographic library of forages and illustrations of how other farmers are using forages to extend their grazing season to improve profits and protect water quality. A description of this service can be downloaded at http://www.kansasruralcenter.org/publications/GrazingBrochure.pdf. The project also provides educational outreach including grazing tours.
